Stone
is a product of nature.
Colors
of the stone are specific to the part of the world they originate
based on the minerals in the earth through mining. Blocks
are removed from the quarry mines and then cut into slabs.
Each
stone is made up of different materials having different hardness.
All polished stone surfaces have a varying degree of pits.
Pitting does not make a specific stone less desirable or an
inferior product. Pitting is considered a natural characteristic
of stone, based on industry standards.
Granite
is a product of nature, possessing unique characteristics.
Size of slab may be a limiting factor to a particular selection
and will determine where seams occur on a specific project.
The slabs
are processed with the desired surface finish and transported
to fabrication shops throughout the world. At the fabrication
shops the stone slabs are fabricated to desired specification
based on each individual project.
Chips
at edges or corners may be filled, provided that the structural
integrity of the stone is not affected. The fill is matched
to the color and finish of the stone so as not to distract
from the stone's appearance. The fill color is permanent and
will match the color and finish.
To have
a successful installation of countertops, cabinets must be
installed on a true plane and level within 1/8" inch
in a 10' foot run. All areas that are to receive stone must
be stable and rigid.
Overhangs
greater than 10" inches need to be supported. Support
structures need to be firmly secured. These support structures
may be legs or brackets and supplied by others.
Abutting
stone pieces form joints that are to filled with a two-part
colored epoxy. Seams are to be the same width the entire length
of the seam.
It is
highly recommended that you pick out your stone for your specific
project. Choosing a slab is as individual as you are. Each
slab has its own unique markings, patterns and veining that
are specific to each individual slab. Call to set up your
